Ryan, part of the reason why the state lumps anarchists in with communists is because, historically, anarchism was aligned with the political left, accepted the labor theory of value, and wanted to create a utopian communitarian society. Anarchists often worked together with the authoritarian left in violent revolutionary activity in the hope of eventually reaching a society without government or capitalism. Anarchism based on property rights and the subjective theory of value is a more recent development and at odds with core beliefs of left-wing anarchism, which is opposed to certain types of private property that they view as institutions of an oppressive bourgeois-capitalist system.
You also often remark that the Palestinian people have a legal right to armed resistance as they live under military occupation. However, from a Voluntaryist point of view, doesn’t deferring to international law like this risk legitimizing the idea that nations/states/polities have special rights that individuals don’t? I worry that in the desire to support a people being erased, we risk embracing legal systems that empower supranational organisations like the United Nations. Maybe a potential topic for an IMA panel?

Always a good point. Which is why I always start with, “Since we are forced to live in a statist society…” Point being that if I had my way (and I fight and advocate for daily) I’d have a world with no government. But since we are in this statist society, I will advocate for what I can to achieve what I can that align with my values. But to make the point from an anarchistic point of view, these people would have a right to protect themselves like anyone would. So I am just trying to use the statist logic to reach those who need it, in hopes of much needed change. And from there, I will push in the direction of no government as I always do.
