American Hubris

There was once a group of men who saw on the horizon the potential for a new kind of government. One that was ruled by reason, not desire. These men chose to put their very lives and that of their families on the line for a chance, just a slim chance, that the world would one day know freedom. A world ruled by moral choices and compassion for any and all who were oppressed. It was understood that this change came with great responsibility, not only to those who were freed from tyranny, but also to the world that watched, admired and hoped.

Today that responsibility has been forgotten. What has grown in its place is an unjustified arrogance that is held from what we were, not who we have become. Over time our choices have become selfish, self-serving, and lacking compassion. The world looks on as we make choice after choice that is best for the few instead of the many. With every choice in that direction, we lose them; we lose what we once had. The average American responds to intelligent questions with, “We did it because we’re America!” as if that solves anything. Not to say that our country has not helped in many ways. Our country has offered its wisdom, supplied food and even fought wars with our allies. In some cases personal agendas may have played a factor, but good deeds none the less. Where we lost our way is in seeing the rest of the world as below or beneath us and in making the average citizen drunk with the idea of American supremacy. When the truth is that many other thriving countries, who most likely modeled themselves after us, no longer look to us as they once did.

In trying to convince a slowly declining nation that they are still number one, our government has successfully brainwashed themselves with their own message. Never openly saying that we have problems or even admitting that we are no longer on top as we once were. It has become taboo to even speak aloud the possibility that the United States is anything other the absolute best at everything. How do you solve a problem that doesn’t exist? Our ego is a monster that we created and now can no longer be reigned in. Our inability to acknowledge our problems will ultimately be our downfall unless we change our course. In business every day there are examples of successful companies who are aware of a problem and instead of pretending it’s not there, they find ways to adjust and adapt as times change. We should be able to admit a path that has led away from original goals and simply take the time to correct and move forward. This country has everything it needs to thrive again. The right choices must be made to bring us home.

Every American has the right to be proud of who we are and where they came from. Not too long ago, the United States was the model from which every other country took their cues. We knew we had become great. We had accomplished something that not only changed the world, but changed how people viewed the world. We acted like an honor bound athlete that has been there before, we didn’t pound our chest and say look at me were the best, we just knew it, and let our actions speak the loudest. This nation will find its way back to the moral high ground, but it will take those true Americans that have the courage to speak up. The first step to solving a problem, is admitting you have one. America is not the greatest county in the world anymore, but it can be.

  1. Ryan. Thanks for your posts. I just discovered you because of a Facebook post about weather modification posted by Clyde Lewis. I stumbled upon your American Hubris article and thought you would like to know about the sure path to restoring America. These people know the history of when and how or Republic was stolen from us and have already legally formed a path of restoration. You can read all about it and join the peaceful revolution here. http://www.republicoftheunitedstates.org

  2. I realize this is considered digital archaeology by today’s standards – but excellent article and you managed to express what I’m unable to put into words.
One thing, in paragraph 4 it says “Not to long ago, the United States was the model from which every other country took their cues.” It should be “not TOO long ago.” My spelling hubris is showing. 🙂
