Sanjay Gupta openly stated that he has reversed his stance on marijuana and chosen to apologize for the role that he played in misleading the public thus far. He had once advised that, “Marijuana isn’t really very good for you.” He is now singing a very different tune. He was a victim, as many are today, of believing that the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof. Their claim that cannabis had, “no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse” was completely unfounded and the truth is quite the opposite. Sanjay recently said himself:
“They didn’t have the science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true. It doesn’t have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. In fact, sometimes marijuana is the only thing that works.”
There will be more position changing that will arise as this campaign of awareness moves forward. It is just a matter of time until it becomes impossible to deny what is being proven all over the world. Recently the age-old drug awareness group called, the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or as it is more commonly known, D.A.R.E. has removed marijuana from its curriculum. This federally funded program will no longer be perpetuating the unfounded dangers of cannabis, and even released an Op-Ed piece calling for marijuana legalization. This is in large part due to the fact that there are very few actual dangers associated with cannabis use, and those few can be attributed to over-use; as with every substance, safety in moderation.
In an attempt to save face, the group has now quietly dropped cannabis from its course. This seems to be in contrast with what the Federal Government would have the people believe. One would think that this is worthy of discussion. Why is it no longer necessary to talk about marijuana? What are the new facts that are responsible for causing this decision? However, there is no discourse on the matter. Their previously taught misconceptions will fall into the annals of the subject, right next to the likes of “Reefer Madness” and other unsubstantiated propaganda.
The true pioneers in this time of control and coercion, are those that take action when no one else will. Those that speak out when it is not popular to do so, not for profit or fame, but because it is the right thing to do. It takes more bravery than most will have in a lifetime to put one’s reputation on the line for the just cause. To stand up to those who would see the world fall to add to their fortune.
Those passionate about this cause should stand and loudly support Sanjay’s courage to go against the grain in a country where doing so can be political and career suicide. Speaking out in a nation where truth is second to profit, is a dangerous move. We have seen in the past that those who speak the forbidden truth are cast out from inner circles and branded as liars, or worse, as criminals.
