The Israeli army on Friday attacked two positions in the blockaded Gaza Strip, after the IDF claimed its forces came under fire near the Gaza-Israel buffer zone. No one was injured in the exchange.
According to one Israeli army statement, two Hamas “military positions” were targeted by airstrikes and tank-fire. While The Times of Israel reports that Israeli tank and aircraft targeted two Hamas “observation posts” along the Gaza border.
The exchange also came amid ongoing efforts to implement a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. So we should be asking the obvious question: Was this “fire from Gaza” real at all? Or manufactured to ensure the failure of the ceasefire? As we know that Netanyahu has been outspoken about his desire — as well as the desire of a majority of Israelis — to see the end of any semblance of a Palestinian state.
No Palestinian groups have claimed responsibility for the alleged shooting incident that was used to bomb civilian areas in Gaza. According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent based in Gaza, Friday’s attacks targeted positions east of Gaza’s Bureij refugee camp and east of Gaza City.
No casualties have been reported as a result of the strikes.
