Putin: Chemical Attack In Aleppo Should Not Go Unpunished

On November 30, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said that the recent chemical attack launched by radical militants on the Syrian city of Aleppo shouldn’t go unpunished.

“Such terrorists’ crimes should not have left unpunished, otherwise they will replicate such antics,” Putin said during a BRICS meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The Russian president also stressed that the attack was a clear violation of the demilitarized zone agreement, which was reached last September.

The attack, which occurred on November 24, was carried out with rockets containing chlorine gas, according to Syrian-state media. More than 100 civilians were reportedly injured, including dozens of women and children.

The Russian Aerospace Forces eliminated the militants who had launched the rockets and destroyed their positions a day after the attack. However, Russia and its allies are apparently planning to hold the leadership of the militants and their backers accountable for the use of chemical weapons.
