Israel Conclusively Killed Al-Jazeera Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

This Wednesday morning Israeli occupation forces violently raided the Jenin refugee camp, murdering a Palestinian-American journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, and injuring her producer. This was a blatant crime, one that the Western media have distorted and lied about, along with the Israeli government.

The despicable lies of Western corporate media are again on full display with the blatant murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Shireen was not “killed under suspicious circumstances”, there is no chance that “Palestinians accidentally killed her” and all the evidence points to Israeli culpability. But not for the propagandist corporate media, no, this was a “complex” and “mysterious” tragedy.

Before we delve deeper, first it is important to note who Shireen Abu Akleh was. Shireen was one of the most famous and loved Palestinian journalists., she had worked for Al-Jazeera, covering Israeli crimes for over 20 years. Some of her most notable work came in the same location where she was killed, Jenin camp, where in 2002 Shireen was one of very few journalists to cover the Israeli massacre of Palestinians inside the refugee camp. A sea of tears have been cried by Palestinians throughout all the Palestinian territories and into the diaspora. What she meant and the bravery that she displayed whilst doing her job meant more than the words she spoke. She has become immortalized as a symbol of Palestinian resistance to Israel’s brutal military occupation and ethnic cleansing campaign.

Why was she killed and who gave the order? We know that an Israeli soldier was responsible for the murder, however, what is not clear currently is whether the action was committed by a rogue soldier or if this order came from higher up. If the order was given to assassinate Shireen, who was wearing a bullet proof helmet and vest, which read “PRESS”, then this was an assassination and was likely carried out with achieving a certain goal through such an action. This much is not yet clear at the moment, and would just be speculation to try and break down.

Israeli Government and Western Media Lies

It was clear from the get-go that the Israeli government was working at full speed to cover up the warcrime committed by its illegally occupying forces. The Israeli official Twitter account for its Foreign Ministry put out a video in which they falsely claimed it was most likely Palestinians who shot and killed Shireen. Despite this being blatant disinformation, quickly and easily debunked by Israel’s top human rights organization B’Tselem, the Western media ran with stories in which they circulated the Israeli claim about Palestinians being potentially responsible.

A number of top Israeli government officials also spread the claim that Palestinians were responsible for their own military’s war crime. If this was an out of context video shared by an independent journalist or perhaps a random twitter account, we could simply say this is propaganda, and that it could even have been a mistake. However, this was not just propaganda, this was a conspiracy to hide facts and distort the truth, one which has provided Western media and Western governments with an excuse not to address this war crime correctly.

How is this a provable conspiracy, you ask? Israel does not simply get this sort of thing wrong. The Palestinian gunmen who opened fire on Israeli troops were nowhere near the site at which Shireen Abu Akleh was killed, and the Israeli forces who were shot at know this too. Israel does not simply send its forces into an area like Jenin camp without close coordination and strict rules, keeping forces in contact with their chain of command at all times. This means that the second Palestinians opened fire, the Israeli military would have known where.

Let’s give Israel the benefit of the doubt on the point above, maybe their communication systems all failed and the entire military command structure was out of the loop. Did the troops not report the incident after withdrawing from the camp? None of them at all? Or does Israel not have the blue prints of the area? Were all of Israel’s snipers that were placed in position to cover their troops were blinded and deafened temporarily? Israel’s military knew. This means that Israel’s government would have also been informed about what went on at some point. This paints a pretty clear picture.

Every single Western journalist in a senior position at corporate news outlets already knows everything you just read. Either every single one of these news outlets — including the Independent, Guardian, BBC, CNN, Fox News, and all the rest of them — failed to do any research whatsoever on the situation, or they all willingly lied. These organizations employ thousands of journalists and some have insanely inflated budgets, yet we are supposed to believe they just got it wrong and continue to get it wrong because they are lazy? No, this is not feasible.

Western corporate media are still, today, publishing articles in which they mention claims that Palestinians could have been involved in the murder of Shireen. Yet, in the age of “combating disinformation”, none of these organizations have been “fact-checked,” none have been banned from Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, or Instagram. The US Government says that it relies on Israel to carry out an investigation into itself, yet we now have evidence that the Israeli government has already lied to cover up its crime.

Another claim being spread is that the Palestinian Authority, in the West Bank, is essentially admitting Palestinian guilt by refusing to do a joint investigation with Israel, as it is rejecting an Israeli military investigation into itself. This is again ridiculous propaganda and can be debunked by simply looking at the statements of both sides. The Palestinian Authority are deferring the case directly to the International Criminal Court (ICC), rejecting the Israeli investigation on the grounds that the Israeli military is responsible and cannot be trusted to investigate itself. B’Tselem, Israel’s top human rights organization, has in the past stated that it gave up attempting to appeal to the Israeli military to prosecute its own forces when they commit warcrimes, because it so rarely holds its troops accountable for committing any such atrocities.

We could spend hours pulling up every ridiculous and sickening article, quoting all of the paid propagandist actors on broadcast media, but it will suffice to say this: corporate Western media outlets don’t do journalism, they do one-sided biased propaganda, and those they feature on their television programs are mere actors reading a script. They don’t know the first thing about journalism. If they ever wanted to learn a thing or two, they should review the work of Shireen Abu Akleh, a journalist who puts them all to shame.

As a journalist myself, who has Palestinian family, I’m sick to my stomach, not just at the horrific murder of Shireen, but the way the so-called journalists in Western media are spitting all over her grave and helping to blame the victims. There are no ifs, ands, or buts here — Israeli forces murdered Shireen Abu Akleh. Killing a journalist like this is a war crime. Period.
