The FBI/DOJ Deep-seated Corruption, Feigning For Opioids, The Memo Distraction & US Imperialism

Welcome to The Daily Wrap Up, a concise show dedicated to bringing you the most relevant independent news, as we see it, from the last 24 hours.

While most of mainstream media is surprisingly still consumed with finger-pointing and debates over the stop-gap bill and the government shutdown in general, and politicians including the VP and President himself shamelessly try to capitalize by demonized and blaming their opponents…

The FBI and DOJ are exposed as the swamps of corruption they truly are

This story in many ways has already been hijacked to some degree, as it turns into some made-for-TV drama on which Americans can satiate themselves, and their unending desire for salacious stories; be they true or completely fabricated, it makes no difference for the gluttons of drama. But the core importance of this story is eternally true, as the saying goes, “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

In this case we see this ongoing circle of investigation in which no is ever truly held accountable. We saw it with Hillary Clinton, and now we have text messages being deleted, and then eclipsed by the next installation of the soap opera. We have Bush-era surveillance data “accidentally” deleted, and nothing is done, and on and on. The people are told “no stone will be left unturned“… but what that really means is that a show of effort will be broadcasted until the next distraction, and the people at large completely dismiss the past transgression for the new “bombshell” … until of course the next one.

US imperialism carries on across the world

In the new “National Defense Strategy” the US addresses the erosion of its “competitive edge,” and Secretary of Defense James Mattis paints a picture of a dangerous world in which U.S. power – and all of the supposed “good” that it does around the world – is on the decline. “Our competitive edge has eroded in every domain of warfare – air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace, and it is continually eroding.’

Yet as Nicolas J.S. Davies puts it:

What he could have said instead is that the US military is overextended in every domain, and that much of the chaos seen around the world is the direct result of past and current military adventurism. Further, he could have acknowledged, perhaps, that the erosion of U.S. influence has been the result of a series of self-inflicted blows to American credibility through foreign policy disasters such as 2003 invasion of Iraq.

So the new plan? Wash, rinse, repeat; to keep jamming that square US peg into the round hole, that is the rest of the world, despite the horrendous damage and ongoing consequences of failing to address past transgressions, and dressing up the old plan as if it is something new and making all the same mistakes.

Opioid overdoses surpass breast cancer

Despite the fact that the US has about 5% of the worlds population, it consumes around 80% of the opiates. Interestingly enough, about 90% of the world’s opium comes from, surprise surprise, US occupied Afghanistan. Production had almost completely ceased, yet once the US invaded, production of opium skyrocketed … go figure.

and…

Rex Tillerson accuses Assad of using chemical weapons with no proof, again

As if we need another example of making the same mistakes over and over, the US seems content to keep trying this one until the world is either too tired to argue, or it simply no longer cares. And sadly, it seems, at least in the US, both are quickly approaching. We cannot let this same old song and dance be repeated. We must stand on the side of peace, at all costs.
