A Decentralized Revolution: States Standing Up To The Federal Government

“Time For The People To Mobilize Behind Them”

If one has open eyes, it’s not hard to see that the world is becoming more unequal by the day, as power and control over the world becomes further and further consolidated into the hands of a smaller élite class. In essence, this is centralization of power, whereas one group/power structure obtains greater control of law and function over larger amounts of people and land. The question that every citizen needs to wake up and ask, is whether a centralized system is good for society or whether decentralizing power is necessary for bringing about greater equality and justice to a system that’s clearly broken.

This is far from a new question. Anyone who has taken the time to research through U.S. history will see the debate of federal power vs. state power has been at the very foundation of this country’s insurrection. The whole reason the United States broke away from England in the first place and desired independence was the supreme overreach of the monarchy/banking system, which was the centralized power structure during the colonial times. For this reason, the founding fathers designed a system which limited the power of the federal government to only those listed in the Constitution and gave the rest of the rights to the states. This was designed to balance out power and keep too much of it from accumulating in one centralized location. They knew the dangers of giving one group too much influence over an entire country, as well as having a central bank; which is a story in and of itself and for another day.

“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite……The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State” – James Madison, 4th President of The United States of America

Unfortunately, our system of government is vastly misunderstood by a majority of the population, most of which have been asleep at the wheel while the federal government has repeatedly overstepped the Constitution; illegally growing in both size and power. It should start to become clear that the correlation between big government and high inequality are not related by mere coincidence, but both cause and effect, resulting in the hijacking of the United States of America by an élite class. It would appear that the people find themselves in the very same position they were in when first they broke free from English rule. It is no longer a country for the people by the people, but for the élite by the élite, essentially a feudalistic country of a super healthy class and everyone else being low-class serfs.

With all that being said, there are decentralized movements taking place of which the people must start to recognize and mobilize behind. While individual and local power are both vitally important and need to be undertaken to weaken central power, there are important battles at the state level happening right now that people can get out and participate in. These are not issues that the current power system want to see addressed, therefore, getting the people to wake up and organize in support of them is paramount if these issues are to be heard and succeed. The people must start to crack the armor of centralized power if the dam is to break and freedom is to reign. A state level take back combined with individual lifestyle changes can go a long way toward bringing about tangible change.
