  1. Hi, I’m a retired RN in California who just signed up to volunteer in case of need. I worked at a major teaching hospital in the Bay Area for 33 years, and I can tell you that all my nursing friends are saying their places of work are overwhelmed, here and across the country. It is true that administrators, not the medical leadership, are rationing PPE and putting their staff at risk. In Texas they declined to expand Medicaid so quite a few rural hospitals closed. I follow several FB nursing sites, and I keep seeing stories about people not having time off, and working extra/overtime. Quite a few hospitals are not allowing visitors, so the halls are much more empty than normal.
